Memorandum of cooperation signed with the secondary school “Mirko Vešović”

Today, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation with the Secondary School “Mirko Vešović” on measures to combat discrimination based on gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics, as well as the promotion of tolerance toward transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex individuals!
The signatories of the Memorandum agree to jointly work within their capacities and legally defined competences to improve the position of transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex individuals at the local level. Together, we aim to create conditions that will lead to the elimination of all forms of discrimination against this population in the community, both locally and nationally.

Signing of agreement with RYCO for the advancement of the trans community

Today, we officially signed a project agreement with the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO). As part of this project, we will implement a variety of activities, including training to build the capacity of trans activists to work with the community, workshops aimed at increasing the visibility of the trans community and the importance of our human rights, as well as the creation of publications that will be developed following these training sessions.

Call for the urgent adoption of the same-sex partnership Law

The Law on Same-Sex Partnerships Must Be Urgently Adopted, concluded at the meeting of the Coalition “Together for LGBT Rights,” which will focus on efforts to reduce prejudice and increase societal acceptance of LGBTI individuals. The President of the Board of Directors of Queer Montenegro, Danijel Kalezić, stated that the Coalition “Together for LGBT Rights” was founded in 2010, and that on its tenth anniversary, a call was made for the urgent adoption of the Law on Same-Sex Partnerships.

Statement on World Mental Health Day

On October 10th, the World Health Organization marks World Mental Health Day, with a special focus on the prevention, raising awareness, and treatment of mental disorders. When discussing mental health, it is crucial to pay particular attention to groups that, due to various forms of violence and oppression, are marginalized, such as lesbians, gay men, bisexual, transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex individuals. Members of marginalized groups face unique challenges in the societies in which they live, due to their specific socioeconomic status and their differences based on gender, sexuality, class, and belonging to particular national, ethnic, or religious groups. Daily encounters with prejudice and discrimination, as well as experiences of psychological, physical, and/or sexual violence, often force us, LGBTI individuals, into situations where we are compelled to live in fear, shame, and hiding.
